The Challenge
Rethinking the guided tour in an immersive way
The project aimed to create a virtual reality journey capable of transporting the user to Ancient Rome, allowing them to move through the city’s most iconic and representative settings.
The goal was not only to reconstruct the locations, but to create an active and engaging experience capable of increasing attention levels, improving engagement, and extending the user’s dwell time within the experience in the exhibition space.
The Solution
VR and AI in service of the cultural experience
Loto Studios developed an immersive virtual tour based on high-fidelity 3D historical reconstructions, optimized for standalone headsets and for real-world museum and tourism use contexts.
The experience is structured around three main environments — the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Imperial Forums — designed so that users can freely explore the spaces and experience the narrative firsthand through intuitive navigation. A key element of the system is the integration of two multilingual virtual guides in the form of interactive avatars.
These AI virtual assistants, modeled in historical attire, allow users to:
- Provide contextual and adaptive explanations
- Support multiple languages natively
- Interact vocally with the user during the visit
- Ensure a guide that is always available, scalable, and customizable
The system also includes teleportation and controller-based interaction features. The entire experience is optimized for Meta Quest 3 headsets, with remote-assisted installation, ensuring immediate and easy deployment in exhibition contexts.
